new member pin missing

SQL gives a "Duplicate Entry error for key 2" notice when a new member clicks the verify link in a join email. Resulting in a proper password, but a missing pin for whatever silly reason. Looking into this now.

This is a username issue--I've seen this before. The username column is UNIQUE, so if someone's username is set to '' (the blank string), then we can't add new profiles via the join system (which also defaults to ''). Investigating the database, it appears that LCM Walex Partija changed his username to '', creating the problem. I've reset that to "walex" and profiles can now be created. I've changed the verify link for the new member who was unsuccessful, and re-sent him an email.
To avoid this problem in the future, we need to set stricter guidelines on username selection -- allow only the PIN, or a non-numeric string a certain number of characters long, say 3+. We also need to provide error messages in /profile/edit.php if a username exists already (or is invalid using the new rules).
Until that system is in place I'm leaving this call open, to prevent further problems of this nature. (RA Licah Fox)

ok, added in code to preven blank usernames and funny characters.. I think I'll append this to character names as well just in case people want to "delete" themselves. (RA Joshua Hawkins)

Character names must be approved, so there's no need for any more code. System seems to be fine now. (RA Joshua Hawkins)
